Old Man Willow is an evil tree that stands at the Withywindle river in the Old Forest. Old Man Willow has powers over the other trees in the Old Forest and he is the source of evil power in that wood. He lulled the Hobbits into sleep and then trapped Merry and Pippin into his cracks. Luckily they were rescued by Tom Bombadil who ordered the tree to let them free.
