The Tour: Mordor

Mordor "Welcome to Mordor! A bitter welcome it is as we are now entering the land of dread, the land where the shadows lie. It is the home of our enemy Sauron and some of his worst minions. Mordor is the land with locations that will make you shiver to your very bones and it will make you wish you were back safe in your hobbit-hole. However dreadfull it is, it was the path that Frodo and Sam had to take in order to fulfill their quest. And they had to do it alone, without the help of Aragorn or Gandalf or any other member of the Fellowship of the Ring. They had to travel through the land of Mordor while constantly hiding for the Enemy and make their way to Mount Doom. There they had to throw the One Ring in the Crack of Doom where it was once forged by Sauron himself. This was the only way to destroy the One Ring and break the power of Sauron. It seemed an impossible mission..."

The taming of Smeagol Smeagol joins the Hobbits
(AUDIO: Gollum in the Dead Marshes)
(AUDIO: Gollum is called a Sneak)
"Weird enough Gollum, of whom there was so much negative talk, became the guide of Sam and Frodo in Mordor. Sam captured Gollum with some help from Frodo as Gollum was making his way down the cliff that they had just descended from. After the struggle Gollum started begging for his life asking for the Hobbits to spare his miserable life. Frodo sensed that Gollum could have an important role in the succes of his quest, he just did not know what that role could be. Sam was not so sure though. They decided to take him along and have him guide the way. During their joint travel Sam and Frodo noticed how it seemed that Gollum had two identities. His 'addiction' to the ring had changed him from Smeagol to Gollum and had made him a very miserable creature. Smeagol really seemed very eager to help the Hobbits and he started to win their trust and their pity."

Sam and Shelob Shelob's Lair
"Gollum's plans became clear at Torech Ungol, a cave which they had to pass through to reach the other side of the pass. As they made their way through this dark and smelly lair, Gollum suddenly disappeared. Before they knew it Frodo was attacked by Shelob, a giant spider-like monster, last child of the great Ungoliant. In the meanwhile Sam was attacked from behind by Gollum. After a struggle Gollum fled and Sam came to the aid of Frodo who was already lying on the ground with the monster bending over him. Sam grabbed Sting and attacked Shelob in rage, stabbing her in one of her eyes. As he moved under her the creature decided to crush him under her weight. As she did so, Sam pointed Sting upwards and Shelob crushed into the bitter spike. Sam had defeated Shelob and she fled back to her lair."

Cracks of Doom The Cracks of Doom
(AUDIO: The Fall of Gollum)
Miraculously Sam and Frodo reached Mount Doom after surviving numerous dangers. They were now reaching the end of their quest. Gollum had, however, followed them all the way since his betrayal at Shelob's Lair and was now waiting to make his final move and reclaim his precious. As Frodo and Sam were toiling their way up to the Cracks of Doom they were suddenly attacked by Gollum. Sam struggled with Gollum as he urged Frodo to go on and throw the ring in the Cracks of Doom. Sam decided to spare Gollum's life and sent him away. He then ran after Frodo and he reached the Cracks of Doom where he saw Frodo on the brink of the chasm. Frodo however now came under the power of the Ring and he said: "I have come, but I do not choose now to do what I came to do. I will not do this deed. The Ring is mine!". He then put on the ring and vanished. Then suddenly Sam was stricken from behind by Gollum who then attacked Frodo. In his struggle with Frodo, Gollum bit off the finger on which Frodo has put the One Ring. As he was celebrating his retrieval of his precious he stepped too far, toppled and then fell into the Cracks of Doom. So in the end it was Gollum who destroyed the One Ring and the power of Sauron. Soon after the war was won and Sam and Frodo were rescued from Mount Doom by Gandalf and Gwaihir, the Lord of the Eagles."
