The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
<< Back to Movies
New Line Cinema have bought the rights for creating the Lord of the Rings movies and they have decided to make it a trilogy just like the book. The three movies have been shot on various location in New Zealand in a timespan of 14 months with a budget of $240 million. The first part: The Fellowship of the Ring is going to be released on December 19, a date that has been marked in the calendars of almost every Tolkien Fanatic. The second part: The Two Towers will follow on December 14, 2002 and the third and last part: The Return of the King will conclude the trilogy on December 14, 2003. Although New Line Cinema also holds the movie rights for the The Hobbit and The Silmarillion it is still uncertain if these books will be filmed as well.
Peter Jackson is the renowned director/producer of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy which will star Elijah Woods, Liv Tylor, Sean Bean, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen and Sir Ian Holm and many others.
A lot of Computer Generated Imaging will be used for various effects. The Hobbits, whose heights should be between 2-4 feet, will be played by normal actors and through CGI and other effects the normal actors will appear to be about half the size of a normal man. Some of Tolkien's most fascanating creatures will completely be constructed by CGI. Gollum, Treebeard, the other Ents and Shelob will all be computer generated with voice acting. For the large battle-scenes the movie will use a proprietary software called MASSIVE. The results should be quite stunning.
