As of Forelithe 28, SR 1401, the Shire has begun minting coins. 24 coins were minted in the first run, including 16 pennies and 8 silver pennies. The basic coins are the PENNY which is minted in copper, and the SILVER PENNY, sometimes known as a shilling, minted in silver.

The Shire Coinage Contest
The Shire wants to create coins for all the different reals of Middle-Earth. They have started with the Shire (of course) and now they also want to create coins for realms like Gondor, Rohan and Mordor. This is why they have created a Contest. The winner of the contest will receive the first ten coins of his design including full documentation. To enter simply e-mail your coin design to:

We received some very cool Coins from The Shire. All the coins came neatly packed in small plastic bags with a description of each coin, type of the coin and the date that the coins were minted (in Shire Reckoning, of course). The Coins are really detailed with very nice and creative designs. They make a very nice and original addition to any Tolkien Fanatic's collection.
