Lord of the Rings Movies: Cinema Entrance

With the current hype surrounding the New Line Cinema Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy one would almost forget that there are and were other Tolkien related movie projects. Here is an overview of all interpretations of J.R.R Tolkiens works The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.:

Lord of the Ring - Fellowship of the Ring Lord of the Ring - Fellowship of the Ring
The First Movie in Peter Jackson's interpretation of the J.R.R. Tolkien books: The Fellowship of the Ring. The movie was welcomed as one of the best movies ever and well appreciated by both fans and people unfamiliar with the Lord of the Rings books

Lord of the Ring - The Two Towers Lord of the Ring - The Two Towers
The Second Movie in Peter Jackson's interpretation of the J.R.R. Tolkien books: The Two Towers. Although this movie does not stick as much to the books as the first movie it was still received as an amazing movie with more impressive seens than the first movie.

Lord of the Ring - The Return of the King Lord of the Ring - The Return of the King
The Third Movie in Peter Jackson's interpretation of the J.R.R. Tolkien books: The Return of the King. This movie has not been launched yet at the time of writing but is certainly the most anticipated movie of 2003. We are very excited about is as we can imagine you are.

Ancanar Ancanar - Elemental Films
Ancanar is the name of an upcoming movie by director Sam. R. Balcomb and is set in the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is about Ancanar a man who is the sole heir to the Rammoth Valley and its fortunes. He must search the Elven city where he hopes to find the redemption for himself and his family.

The Hobbit The Hobbit Animated - Warner Studios
Directors Jules Bass & Arthur Rankin created the animated movie of The Hobbit in 1977. It can be seen as the first part of a trilogy of animated movies starting with The Hobbit and ending with the Return of the King.

The Lord of the Rings The Lord of the Rings Animated- Warner Studios
Director Ralph Bakshi created the first part of the Lord of the Rings animated movie in 1978. Unfortunately he never completed the second part. The First part covers the Fellowship of the Rings and the first half of the Two Towers and end quite abruptly.

The Return of the King The Return of the King Animated - Warner Studios
Directors Jules Bass & Arthur Rankin created the animated movie that begins where Bakshi left off and ends with the conclusion of the Lord of the Rings.

Some general comments regarding movie interpretations of Tolkien's Books
In our opinion it is impossible to capture the dept of Tolkien's books in a movie or even a movie trilogy. In order to enjoy a Tolkien inspired movie one should keep this in mind and not be too critical and expect an exact account of all the characters and events described in the books. It would take a movie series of perhaps 100 hours to put the exact Lord of the Rings trilogy in a movie. Ommissions and alterations in the story and characters are an immediate consequence of trying to summarize 300 pages of a book in a 2-3 hour movie. This however does not mean that the movie cannot be very enjoyable or be a fascanating translation of Tolkien's work.
